Judge Yada Magee To Step Down
After 22 Years On The CDC Bench

Orleans Parish Civil District Court Judge Yada T. Magee has announced that she will retire at the end of her current term and not seek re-election in the fall. During a reception launching the release of her first book, Judge Magee expressed her sincere gratitude to the citizens of New Orleans for giving her the opportunity to serve as a Civil Court Judge. "In September of 1985, after much prayer, I decided to run for judge of Orleans Parish Civil District Court." At that time I solicited and received the support of ministers in the Greater New Orleans area.  For that support I will be eternally grateful. During that campaign I told the voters that I had served in the church community, as well as in collegiate, professional and civil rights organizations and that I now wanted the opportunity to serve the entire New Orleans community.  By the grace of God we were victorious on March 1, 1986.

Reflecting on her time as a jurist at CDC Judge Magee said, “During my twenty-two years on the bench, I have not sought to pontificate or be pompous; nor have I sought praise or approval.  I have sought to do justice and to walk circumspectly before men and God. I treasure the opportunity I have had to sit in judgment of God’s people. I will forever reverence the experience and cherish the honor.”

Judge Magee says although this chapter of her life is winding down she is not simply retiring to do nothing.  “Instead I retire with anticipation and expectancy of a new day. There is a whole new horizon unfolding itself to me.  One where I can use my education, training and talent to be of service to the body of Christ in the rebuilding of the City of New Orleans, and the building up of the church at New Orleans.” To that end Judge Magee has written a book titled “Subpoenaed For Service” which she hopes will be the first of a series books she plans to author.
